AMTS has gained much experience in machining of magnesium parts made of various alloys (click here for alloys).
Machining of magnesium requires spacial care in the following aspects:
- Types of tools
- Materials for fixtures (to prevent galvanic effects during machining process)
- Progress speed of etching
- Emulsion types: controlled mixtures of oil and water (otherwise there is a potential for hydrogen morphosis)
- Removal of chips
- Surface treatment for temporal protection (click here for information)
- Safety
Stress relief process is added to the machining process of accurate parts. The thermal treatment is done in-house.
The machining department of Palbam has the most advanced equipment:
- 4 and 5 axis machining centers
- CNC lathes combined milling head
- Grinders
- XYZ dimensional inspection systems with on-line feedback to the machine command
- Grinding accuracy - ±2mm
